Expatriate & Inpatriate Insurance

An overseas assignment changes where a person lives and works. Expatriate and inpatriate enquiries should start with the direction, duration and employment arrangements of the posting, rather than treating it as an ordinary business trip.

Who it is for

Employers and individuals reviewing an overseas assignment or an assignment into Australia.

Explore the cover

These are areas to discuss, not an automatic inclusion list. Available sections and cover depend on the selected wording and schedule.
01

The assignment and family

Identify the employer, home country, destination, duties and accompanying family. The fact that a family member travels with an employee does not establish their inclusion.

02

Medical and assistance questions

Any medical, assistance or evacuation benefits need to be established from the specific product. Insurance eligibility, residency and immigration requirements are separate matters.

03

Changes during the posting

Extensions, return visits, new destinations and changed duties should be reviewed alongside the existing arrangement. A long posting may need a different approach from repeated short trips.

Information for quotations

Provide employing entity, home and destination countries, assignment duration, duties, accompanying family, locations and existing arrangements.

Limitations and exclusions to discuss

Residency, immigration and insurance eligibility are separate questions. Medical, assistance and other benefits must be confirmed in the particular product.

Frequently asked questions

Are expatriate and inpatriate the same direction of travel?
No. They describe different assignment directions; the employer, origin and destination must still be identified.
Are accompanying family members automatically included?
No. Identify them and review the actual eligibility and selected benefits; an employee’s posting does not settle family cover.
