Home & Contents Insurance

Your home and the belongings inside it need separate values and a clear description of how you live there. We can help you compare the proposed protection for the building, your contents and everyday household responsibilities.

Who it is for

Homeowners, occupants or tenants discussing the building and their own belongings.

Explore the cover

These are areas to discuss, not an automatic inclusion list. Available sections and cover depend on the selected wording and schedule.
01

Building and contents

Building cover concerns the insured structure and fixtures; contents cover concerns the possessions defined by the policy. A homeowner, tenant and strata-unit owner may need different combinations.

02

Insured events and accidental damage

Some policies respond to specified events; others provide an accidental-damage basis subject to exclusions. Compare the actual treatment of fire, storm, water damage, flood and theft rather than relying on the product label.

03

A place to stay after a loss

If an insured event makes the home uninhabitable, temporary accommodation may be available. Check when this applies, how costs are calculated and the maximum amount or period.

04

Valuables and household liability

Jewellery, collections and belongings taken away from home may have separate limits or need listing. Personal liability also has its own conditions; neither high contents value nor comprehensive wording removes those checks.

Information for quotations

Describe the home, ownership and occupancy, construction, building and contents values, valuables, security, business use and previous losses.

Limitations and exclusions to discuss

Building and contents interests differ. Review insured events, value basis, item limits, occupancy conditions, portable possessions and relevant exclusions.

Frequently asked questions

Do tenants need to describe the whole building as their property?
Identify what you own and what belongs to the landlord or scheme. A shared address does not make the interests identical.
Should a home office be mentioned?
Yes. Describe the actual use and business property, then review the relevant household and business arrangements separately.
