Plant, Equipment & Machinery Breakdown

Equipment can suffer external damage or an internal breakdown, with different consequences for repair, stock and income. Start by separating the machinery itself from the activities that depend on it.

Who it is for

Contractors, hire businesses and operators using mobile or operational plant and equipment.

Explore the cover

These are areas to discuss, not an automatic inclusion list. Available sections and cover depend on the selected wording and schedule.
01

Plant and equipment damage

Describe fixed and mobile equipment, ownership, hire arrangements and work locations. Transport and use away from the premises may need separate treatment.

02

Machinery and electronic breakdown

Business packages can include distinct machinery or electronic-equipment breakdown sections. Selecting property cover alone does not establish breakdown cover, and the insured equipment must be identified.

03

Stock and operating consequences

Refrigerated stock may spoil after equipment failure, while production may stop awaiting parts. Stock deterioration and lost income require their own triggers and limits; equipment repair cover does not settle either issue.

Information for quotations

List owned and hired equipment, value, age, attachments, maintenance, sites, transport and storage, operators and hire-contract responsibilities.

Limitations and exclusions to discuss

Mobile plant damage, mechanical breakdown and downtime are separate questions. Review use, hire conditions, wear-related exclusions, limits and any optional extensions.

Frequently asked questions

Is Machinery Breakdown identical to Plant & Equipment?
No. A plant enquiry follows the asset and its use; breakdown focuses on specified equipment failures and the selected terms. Keep each proposal distinct.
Does equipment insurance pay for spoiled refrigerated stock?
Do not infer this from repair cover. Machinery repair, stock deterioration and trading interruption must each be checked against their own triggers and selected sections.
