01Allied-health practices
Allied-health practices may combine consultations, hands-on treatment, exercise programmes and services delivered away from the clinic. The practitioners involved, treatment methods and patient groups help define the professional exposure. Equipment, premises and confidential records introduce separate operational considerations.
Set out qualifications, services, locations and whether practitioners are employees or independent contractors. Professional indemnity, public liability, property and cyber needs should be reviewed against those facts, including any telehealth or home visits. Do not assume that a clinic’s policy automatically covers every practitioner or treatment; the insured parties and declared scope need to be clear.
02Community care providers
Community care can take place in a person’s home, at a centre or while travelling between activities. Personal support, clinical services and coordination are different functions, even when delivered by the same organisation. Staff, volunteers and contractors may also work under different arrangements.
Describe the people supported, tasks performed, transport, locations and any clinical responsibilities. Review professional and public liability alongside vehicles, records and management exposures as relevant to the service. Safeguarding, consent, incident reporting and supervision remain operational responsibilities. Sensitive or higher-risk activities need specific assessment; neither a general community-services label nor insurance replaces appropriate authorisation and care standards.
03Pharmacies and relevant health businesses
A pharmacy combines professional services with retail stock, premises and information systems. Dispensing and advice create different concerns from customer slips, stock theft or a refrigerator failure. Vaccination, compounding, delivery and other additional services should be described individually where they form part of the business.
Review professional indemnity, public and products liability, property, selected breakdown or stock-deterioration sections and cyber exposure as appropriate. Provide the service scope, staffing arrangements, stock values, cold-storage controls and backup arrangements. The professional cover for an individual and the arrangements for the business entity should be checked separately rather than assumed to be identical.
